I for one am currently dismayed and angered by the utter lack of responsibility that people in Canada seem to accept for there own actions. In what seems to be a never ending series of liability lawsuits, another plaintiff in New Brunswick was awarded damages for injuries incurred while jumping off a cottage dock into SHALLOW water. The ruling went on to state the owners in question should have installed appropriate gates or other safety features to provide the “reasonable safety” of their guest.

When are we going to WAKE UP to this responsibility deficit affecting Canada!! These decisions are continually discrediting any form of risk management among the populace and reinforcing the idea that one is NOT responsible for ones OWN actions. Was it a terrible mistake, most certainly yes, but was it a dereliction of duty on part of the homeowners, I for one think not! Christ, it’s getting to the point where no-one is going to invite anyone to their homes, for the fear of being sued!! Enough is enough already, use your head, be rational and take reasonable risks, and if you choose to partake in risky behavior live by your OWN choices and stop shifting the responsibility where it doesn’t belong.
