Thanks you bitch

So, we were together for almost 5 years. Lived together. You go away at Christmas and meet someone new. We break up. Now the lovely part is that we share an apartment that still has 7 months left under the lease.
I am obviosuly not living with a cheating slimebag like you. So I go to the landlady to see what the options are. She says that one of us can take over the lease, which is not happening as neither one of us can afford the place alone. Or that we can pay a $3000 penalty to break the lease but it has to be paid by Jan 15th. Also not happening as we don't have that kind of $$$. She says the odds of getting someone else to move in for Feb are not great because there is another apartment all ready for rent that is not filled as it is a slow time for renting. Great. So heres my question, what will happen if we just bail and run at the end of the month? I was reading on the NS tenancy board that they can garnish wages for lost rent as well as send a sherriff to confiscate your stuff to sell it for lost rent. This apartment is run by a big corporations that has stars in it. So they probably have lots of lawyers working for them. How long can they charge us for unpaid rent? For 3 months or the total 7 until the lease is up?
Not only am I heartbroken and sad, but now I have to deal with the stress of having my credit fucked up and them calling me at work over it! I will never again live with a siginificant other unless I am married!
