Once again holiday season is upon us and as usual my bullying boss decides not to let any casuals fill in for us full timers on Christmas day. When we questioned my boss why casuals were not working we were told we will never be scheduled off on stat holidays as casuals are needed just for sick calls and summer holidays. Not one casual is working on Christmas. This means that I will be paid time and a half and get an extra day off with pay when a casual would be happy to get the hours esp. in these tough times, and I would be happy to be home wth my family. Now as a hospital worker we were just told that the hospital has to somehow come up with 7 million bucks as the Government can't pay due to the current economic crisis. A way to cut costs here is to not give the managers their raise... very fitting for my boss anyway. I did a calculation of my own and came up with a way to save thousands of dollars by putting a casual in on stat holidays... but whatever I have become apathetic lately. I'm just so tired of working every fucking holiday and my boss's complete disregard for our lives. As a hospital employee covering a 24 hr schedule we are told something to the effect of, "You people think you deserve to have a holiday off! ...this is not how you run a department!" We cannot switch shifts with casuals, even if it worked out better for both parties for child care reasons etc.

Perhaps the new year will inspire me to make a change.
