Steam power- 1800s technology tommorow!

So on Friday Steve and his party decided to axe the Joint Support Ship program (JSS), to replace the two supply ships we have (one per coast). You can read the story here on CBC;http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2008/08/23/ships-cancelled.htmlRemember

Remember the Sea King fiasco? Same thing all over again, except worse. It takes about 10 years between ship design and hull in the water. That means we have at least another decade or so with our current ships, which are over 40 years old, and are powered by steam boilers.

If ships are deployed, they depend on the supply ships for food, parts, fuel, etc. They also have a well equipped dentist and a small surgery. They are pretty much essential if you deploy a ship for any length of time.

Sure, we can get that from other countries supply ships if we're in a task group somewhere, but if Canadian sovereignty is such a big deal, you've now crippled the Navy's ability to do things indepently of other countries.

It's almost impossible to maintain a ship that was designed 60 years ago, fitted with parts from manufacturers that have been out of business for decades, and has seen 40 plus years of constant service.

Fuck you PC!
