I love hearing that everyone here thinks this guy that has done a great service by exposing how the money was spent on the games bid.

Has anyone that has commented on the games ever lived in a city that bid for games and won the games? Not likely.

Before i talk about the benefits, lets look at what this city has. A major downtown arena that is one of the major reasons this city doesnt get larger arena sized concerts acts. A convention center they are trying to do away with, arenas like Shannon Park, and devonshire, no suitable stadiums, not a single track for running that is nearly decent enough to hold any track events, an undersized pool that prohibits major events from coming here. Soccer fields and baseball diamonds that are looking worse and worse each season.

Now ask yourself this, "if we spent the needed money to make all these venues somewhat decent, what would it cost?"

Lets just stick an imaginary price tag on it so that it would get fixed in one shot. Lets assign $100 million to fix up and rebuild them aforementioned facilites. Now, that is the cost to fix or build them, and once you add in all the political nonsense, and surveys, and consulting that would go on, the price tag would be 4 times that. SO really, was that money that was spent do bad? No. At least these facilities would have been built and/or fixed.

Take a look at Calgary. They built the facilities. They didnt pay off during the games like they thought. However, it is 20 years later. Calgary is still hosting world championships in many different sports. They are attracting people all over the world. More imporantly, they have facilities this city is begging to get. They didnt look at the games as something to make money, they were a town that saw the games as a reason to build facilities they need, and hoped to recover some of the costs via the games. Oh yeah, ask anyone in the sporting world about Calgary, and they give you nothing but shining revues.

Its no wonder this city is getting worse and worse and more and more in debt. There is no vision in this city.
