Cameras
WIth all the talk of more security cameras around town for protection, no one's pointed out that knowing who committed the crime isn't stopping the crimes. Most criminals are already "known to police", have lengthy records, have uttered public threats
WIth all the talk of more security cameras around town for protection, no one's pointed out that knowing who committed the crime isn't stopping the crimes.
Most criminals are already "known to police", have lengthy records, have uttered public threats and yet we think they'll be discouraged by a camera?Heck, we've figured out who's committed half the brutal crimes in Halifax without cameras, but when the criminals are counting their sentences in days (on house arrest no less) how does it matter?
England is covered in cameras but handed out probation to a criminal caught on tape beating a elderly busrider nearly to death.
How did the camera help?
So let's see.... we spend a ton of money on cameras to make us feel better, we give up our liberties alittle at atime under survelence and who is getting punished?
Finally we've tried the camera experiment in the supermarkets already, yet very few of the obvious shoplifters ever go to court and those that do get slaps on the wrist and continue to commit crimes. (heck most of them are known by name, and it takes 2-3 years to even get the regulars to trial). So much for the cameras helping stop crime in even the most basic of places!
