Working 9-5 not the only way to make a livin'

I don't work 9-5. In fact, I work crazy hours in my field. But I get so much flak for this it's insane. People ask me when I am getting a real job. I knew it was unlikely I wouldn't get a 9-5 in my field and that's OK. But 9-5ers really are snobbish abou

I don't work 9-5. In fact, I work crazy hours in my field. But I get so much flak for this it's insane. People ask me when I am getting a real job. I knew it was unlikely I wouldn't get a 9-5 in my field and that's OK. But 9-5ers really are snobbish about their jobs and look down on those who don't work 9-5 as idiots or someone who can't get a real job. Here's the deal: think for a moment what you WOULDN'T be able to do in life if you didn't have people working shifts BEYOND 9-5. You wouldn't get groceries because no one would be on backshift to stock shelvess. You couldn't go the the ER. You couldn't rent a movie or go to a theatre. You couldn't drink at a bar.You couldn't call 9-1-1 or 4-1-1 and expect an answer. You wouldn't get your Tims or the newspaper. The list goes on. In fact, I'd wager that there are not only more people out there who DON'T work 9-5, but I'd bet their jobs are actually more important.

Remember 9-5ers: If you want a life beyond your job, you better be grateful for those who don't work 9-5 and treat them with respect. Your jobs don't rule the economy.
