Whats with the lights at Quinpool

I am a mature member of HRM who likes to takes my grandson in his buggy shoppping on Quinpool Road. When I cross the road at the former St Pats and by the Sicilian Pizza the flashing lights starts half way across. With Baby I can't speed up. I don't feel safe crossing at these lights. Come on HRM we are not all speedy students. Make the walking man longer.
