I am sooooo goddam sick of hearing and reading the same repetitious "opinions" on Afghanistan/"support the troops"/Thank a Vet etc, etc, etc, issues in publications and on websites, from military members and/or spouses! Now before you get your knickers in a twist, I absolutely agree with your right to express your opinion but come on. Isn't it even a minute consideration for any of you to stray just a tiny bit from the party line? Maybe even think for yourselves at all?

Again and again I hear simplistic, jingoistic propaganda inspired crap spouted off in support of any and all military actions. Again and again I hear how the troops are doing just fandabulous things for the people of Afghanistan (above all other actions *of course*). Again and again I hear how the rest of us common plebs should fall to our collective knees and kiss the feet of all the brave idiots who are off somehow fighting for our comfy lives here in our safe little houses and again and again I hear complete and utter bull about “freedom”, “democracy”, “the rights of women”, “helping the oppressed”. (Feel free to fill in the blank with whatever other emotional if meaningless buzzword you desire) It’s like you people are all reading from the same damm book! Oh and it also seems very, very obvious from the use of so many catchphrases that none of you know a flying fig about injustice, politics, economics and international development issues in the rest of the world either.

Look, there are divergent opinions among the “regular” population on basically any issue under the sun so when I hear so many endless statements from the military that say exactly the same thing every single time it makes me wonder if you even have the capacity to look at anything as individuals instead of just standing at attention in the public forum.

And although apparently military minds do not seem to be able to grasp much else besides what they are told, could ya also stop your endless ranting about how you are saving us all from some green, googley eyed Taliban monster for half a second and about how because a soldier overseas doesn’t enjoy the comforts of home they are immune to criticism and we should all be shaking their little hands! You people chose the life so buck up and get over yourselves.

Just because you are sent on a flippin mission does not make it right and does not make you anything else than a pawn in the opinions of many. If you feel differently then great but save it for the regimental x-mas party and don’t presume to be informed or intelligent enough (cause you aren’t) to tell me who the heck I should thank for anything. The people of this country are far more qualified than a collection of sterile military brains, that can’t seem to see past their jackboots, to decide who they should thank for anything.
