Whenever I hear anyone make any sort of negative comment on pretty much anything considered to be "Haligonian/Nova Scotia sacred" (which includes almost everything under the sun) they get such well thought out and informed responses. What amazing debaters and thoughtful intellects abound in our fair city.

NOT.

What typically falls out of the mouths of many slack jawed locals is the "Infin ya dun lik it ya kin leaf", phrase or some equally stupid variation of it. That, you “idjits”, is what we call a "blanket stupidity" response that acts as a type of catch all for any situation that a person does not have the capacity to respond to logically. It is an extremely weak and pointless answer and only makes you look ridiculous.

It is the right of anyone to criticize any thing or place they happen to be in and if you have a reason why you feel they are wrong then fine, let’s hear it. If you don’t and have to use the above blanket Halifax knee jerk response then you’re both probably wrong and probably making their point for them. Oh yeah, and accusing someone of being from “Upper Canada” and therefore having some sort of “bad” attitude is also meaningless. It makes you sound like some backwater hick in Alabama who hates “dem norteners”.

As someone who is from both the province and city but who has also traveled and lived in many places besides it, you’re an embarrassment. Face it. This city has a lot of deadwood people and backward attitudes that don’t do any of us any good at all. They SHOULD be criticized because they ARE wrong. Having the typical Haligonian chip on your shoulder and being ready defend stupid, backward idiots simply because they happen to live here is beyond asinine. If they are right great but if they are wrong then *gasp* deal with it.

If we are to build a city and province that is successful and progressive then you will have to accept the idea that just because Jimmy McDonald lives down the road from you does NOT make his opinion worth defending! There are people here with good ideas that are also willing to work to make things better but getting rid of this ignorant, self righteous “NS is da bestest no matter what we screw up” attitude is a needed first step.

If you won’t live in reality then you sound like petulant children when you whine about Toronto and other places and only prove that the biggest NS export really is brainpower.
