Bigots
|
A small 70s and 80s club downtown is guilty of one of the most despicable acts of bigotry I have ever seen.
My wife and I were there recently, and we were enjoying the diversity of the crowd. There were young people, old people, cuties, hounds, and despite a rumoured new policy of "whitening up" the place (by playing country music), the crowd included a number of black people. But very shortly, one of the young black men at a nearby table was instructed to leave because his pants hung low and his shirt wasn't tucked in. Ok, sure, he looked like a high school punk, but so what? Are we all secretly fearing that his pants will cause horrible tangleups on the dance floor? Irrelevant. He was booted and his disgusted friends left with him.
Later, another black man was told in no uncertain terms that he couldn't enter the club for the same reason.
Let me tell you boys and girls, security claims this policy is designed to maintain a certain class of customer, but what they are skirting is that what they are doing is called Racial Profiling, or Cultural Discrimination. Do you REALLY think that if I (a white guy) went in with my pants low and shirt untucked, I would be told to leave? Not on your life. This bigoted, racist little club needs to know that we are NOT tolerant of this policy, and I suggest that EVERYONE voice this opinion to the staff.
