Bluenosers, Red Sox and Green Monsters

Posted on Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 2:48 PM

So, the World Series trophy is on its way to Halifax this January and will be escorted by Wally the Green Monster (!!!). I still can’t believe the Red Sox won the pennant, so the thought of being in the same city as the trophy---the Red Sox’s trophy---is hard to grasp. But what I’m really shocked about is the fact Nova Scotia had a Bluenose Bosox Brotherhood that convinced the Sox bigwigs to bring the trophy here. A quick visit to their website Click here reveals that the Brotherhood are “Nova Scotia's Red Sox fans who have organized themselves into a formal association in order to share discussion of Red Sox issues and promote the team within the province of Nova Scotia. Besides being a social organization the groups other purpose is to help raise funds for charities both associated with the Red Sox and the people of Nova Scotia.” The website features a blog and a photo gallery that includes picks of Dave Robert’s famous steal, Ted Williams, one Bluenoser brandishing his Sox tattoo, Manny being Manny and more. I watched about 80 percent of last summer’s 162 glorious Red Sox games. I stayed up to 2am watching every extra inning. I got text messages from friends about the score when I had to miss a game. I don’t know what it takes to be part of the Brotherhood, but I know should be a member. Also, if some Boston exec happens to be reading this, please don’t trade Jacoby Ellsbury.
