Local non-profit reachAbility is now accepting short films for its first-ever Bluenose-Ability Film Festival, which will take place in Halifax from December 3 to 5. Launching on United Nations' International Day of Persons with Disabilities, BAFF is the first disability film festival in Atlantic Canada (joining disability festivals all over the world):

The Bluenose-Ability Film Festival (BAFF) is seeking submissions from Atlantic Canadians of short films (20 mins or less) dedicated to the theme of disability culture, inclusion, accessibility and disability awareness. BAFF encourages greater participation of persons with disabilities in a media event that honours and celebrates the unique contributions of the growing disability arts and culture movement. We exhibit the most innovative and provocative works from both seasoned filmmakers. We are currently seeking submissions from amateur film makers, as well. Successful entries will be showcased at the Peggy Corkum Music room and the Keshen Goodman Library.

*Short Films for Adults cost $10.00 per entry – Deadline October 25
*Short Films for Youth and BAFF-Y Film competition entries are free – Deadline November 9

The festival also includes workshops and education sessions, as well as prizes like new cameras and gift cards for participants: "Our goal is to showcase innovative and provocative works from both seasoned filmmakers and emerging media arts professionals from Atlantic Canada and around the world." Find more information about submission categories at
