Gold Winner Metro Transit strike
Silver Winner Mayor Peter Kelly
Bronze Winner The murder of Raymond Taavel
Everything about the transit strike was disagreeable. Firstly, the time of year, as commuters had to battle the cold and snow through February and March. Secondly, both sides stubbornly refused to compromise, reflecting decades-old bad blood between management and the workers. Then there were some angry riders taking their frustrations out on strikers, sometimes physically. Most pathetically, there was mayor Peter Kelly propped up as the supposedly credible city spokesperson, even as he was going through a career-ending scandal. The good news? The next strike isn’t due to arrive until 2016.
