WijeratneWorks

Dinuk Wijeratne and Skratch Bastid at the core of an epic super-group.

Dinuk Wijeratne is a pianist-conductor-composer, and opposite him on the music-genre spectrum is the talented DJ Skratch Bastid. This apple and orange team is joining two other musicians this summer to form the super-group, WijeratneWorks. The band will be playing an epic set of three, 20-minute pieces, composed by Wijeratne, at the Halifax Jazz Festival. The challenging feat of trying to create the live blending of acoustics with electronic samples for the first time has Wijeratne excited and understandably, a tad nervous. "Skratch and I met up to rehearse," says Wijeratne, "and at the end I made a joke, saying I was out of my comfort zone. Thankfully, he replied, 'That makes two of us.'"
