(Six Degrees)
A surprise among the Chrismukkah cash grabs of last season was Six Degrees’ first Christmas Remixed disc, one that bridged the gap between kids and their parents by combining old, Burl Ives-style holiday renditions with new, Dan the Automator-style beats. Volume 2 is less interesting from a remix perspective — the requisite Bing Crosby (“White Christmas”), Rosemary Clooney (“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”) and Vic Damone (“Winter Wonderland”) tracks appear, and while they’re fine on their own, the DJs’ tendancies toward repetitive, clanging bells wears fast. Sequels generally don’t have the juice of the original — as true of music as it is of movies — and the merry feelings of Volume 1 are just old ribbon candy this time around.
