US - Canada women's soccer

Canadian defense holding tough

Americans - 3 good chances to score. Nice crossing pass right in front of the Canadian net led to some scrambling, but the shots went wide. Corner kick - dangerous, but the defense did their job. We're in the middle of period of US domination. In the game, I mean. Not the world. Well - that too, I guess.

68:00 - Canada Number 10 Franko got a yellow card.

70:00 AMERICAN BREAKAWAY! Bad pass by Chapman (9) leads to American breakaway. Leblanc does a great job stopping it. Superb block, then she jumps on the ball.

74:00 Last few minutes in the US end. Nothing too threatening by the Canadians. The American passing game is so strong (by comparison to Canada whose whole style of play is long ball), Canada just has to wait for the right moment and strike, instead of building a long play. That's my inexpert opinion. I last played soccer, aged 15, in the Annapolis Valley.

77:00 What'd I say? Christine Sinclair with another off the cuff long shot. Saved shakily by the Yank keeper.

82:00 Lang gets a yellow card. The ground is getting hard out there.

85:00 Rodriguez (US) gets very close to scoring.

86:00 Canadian down! Number 17 Timko gets in collision with American goalkeeper right in front of the net. It wasn't anyone's fault. Hard hit. The stretcher is out. She walks off, but I think she's out of the game.

90:00 - 3 minutes add on time.

93:00 - The last 3 minutes was all Canada in the US end. Hard work. EXCEPT the 2 best goal shots were breakaways, 2 wide open shots by the US in the Canuck end. And Leblanc performed. Great work.
