Two-Timing: Jimmie Sepulis and Tanya Davis

Sure thing: Jimmie Sepulis art opening Thursday, December 4

Candace (Jimmie) Sepulis and Tanya Davis became friends in April of this year, when Sepulis did the illustration for Davis’ album, Gorgeous Morning.

After talking over a beer one night the two decided to do another project together. At the time, Jimmie Sepulis was planning an art show at Venus Envy and from there it was just a matter of finding a venue for Davis and hammering out a date. And it all “came together real easy,” says Davis.

The two artists will be at Venus Envy at 7pm for “some mingling, schmoozing and refreshments...then people will walk a few doors down to the Khyber for a music show,” says Davis. The events have a common theme, as “a lot of my work is pretty loaded and pretty emotional and there are always these subtle themes in them and I feel that Tanya’s music is like that as well,” says Sepulis.

Sepulis’ works on paper will remain up at Venus Envy for the month. While the original illustrations won’t be for sale, she will have prints of the illustrations and holiday cards available for purchase.

When the event starts at the Khyber, Davis will start with a reading of her poetry, since she hasn’t had much opportunity to perform it lately. After the reading, Josh Dean---handpicked by Davis---will start off the night of music.

When Davis hits the stage, it will just be her and her guitar. The advantage of this gallery venue over bars is that it will give her the opportunity to perform some of her “quieter pieces and some new stuff,” she says.

This will be Davis’ last show in Halifax for the year, as the singer-songwriter’s heading out on tour for the rest of the month. But it won’t be the last time these two work together. If they don’t put on another Two-Timing night, it’ll be another event showcasing their talents.
