Turbine turns 15
Three hundred new pieces bring vibrant colours and Lisa Drader-Murphy's memories of India to the runway.

Fifteen years and 75,000 signature pieces have spun by in a whirlwind for Turbine's Lisa Drader-Murphy. "We kind of started with a bang at our very first show one year after we opened in Calgary," says the now Annapolis Valley-based designer. She's celebrating 15 in a big way too. With 300 brand new pieces, her annual showcase (and anniversary party) will be Canada's largest fashion show by a single designer. No big deal, right? One of Nova Scotia's foremost in fashion, Drader-Murphy is known for designs that reflect her globetrotting, and this time around her newest looks bring a taste of her travels to India to the runway. "As with all of my travels, fashion is in my peripheral vision, even if it's not the reason for the trip," says Drader-Murphy of her springtime visit to some small communities in India, which inspired much more than the brightly coloured, hand-woven and hand-embroidered collections you'll see at this showcase and shopping soiree. And as always this Turbine event will support a great cause, this time around it's the HRM's Margeurite Centre for women recovering from addictions and abuse.
