Nicole Mosher and Tarek El-Bitar’s partnership began long before they’d ever thought of marriage. The pair formed a childhood connection after years of tagging along with their older brothers. But after high school, life sent them to different cities. When they reconnected in 2008, their friendship took a romantic turn and then came the tough part---long-distance love. After two-and-a-half years apart, Nicole moved back to Halifax and they got down to business. “The distance was the easy part! Now we had to merge two cultures, two religions and two families into one big crazy wedding,” says Nicole. It came in two parts. First, an intimate at-home Muslim ceremony on New Year’s Eve, where Nicole donned a stunning gown and hijab and a Middle Eastern feast filled their families’ bellies as they rang in 2012. The next day brought the massive celebration. Here, friends and family took over an entire floor of the Delta Halifax and Nicole and Tarek added personal touches to The Zaffa, a traditional entrance for the bride and groom. “It is a lie when they say your wedding day is the best day of your life,” reflects Nicole. “Because ours was quickly bested by the following day, and the one after that…”
