The Space Age

The Space Age EP (independent)

Crunchy and propulsive, The Space Age squeezes a lot of rock into the available space. Guitar man/singer Andy Patil backed Matt Mays in El Torpedo and Greg Fry is best known as the Heavy Blinkers’ drummer. There may be riffs you’ve heard before but never in this order, making the songs freshly familiar. There is one cover, Thin Lizzy’s “Old Town.” A raw vs. tight tension echoes The Replacements. The bass into power chord intro of “My Own Tonight” brings back a memory of Bubaiskull. Generous vocal harmonies smooth it out. The music is not futuristic, though it would work for Friday night this week or in 2022.
