The return of the two towers

To mayor Kelly, HRM councillors and fellow citizens,

I, along with many of my colleagues, urge you to vote in favour of United Gulf's proposed development. I believe it can only have a positive impact on our architectural heritage. I find development in HRM is diminishing as a result of a few outspoken, negative opponents who are living too much in the past. The silent majority is not given a voice in these important matters.

We must look to the future if an economic and social evolution is to improve our environment. An independent panel of architectural professionals/peers and public representation should be formed to ensure that architectural integrity and substance is maintained in the public's interest. This would allow more public awareness and, hopefully, restrict some of the god-awful buildings that are appearing here which are rapidly eroding our beautiful city. We need to create a more vibrant and stimulating architectural environment not only to retain our younger generation, but to attract new citizens as well as tourists, to bring positive life to an otherwise tired and boring old city.
