The Hives - Tussels in Brussels
(Universal)
The Hives stormed the North American music scene with reckless abandon in the 2000, and audiences weren’t quite sure what to make of this band of Swedes who seduced the British market with their aggressively stylish brand of rock. Radically different in both presentation and performance from anything else currently taking place anywhere else, elements may seem pillaged and cliched but The Hives hardly stand still long enough for you to really notice. On Tussles in Brussels, the nattily dressed fivesome brings an unparalleled energy to the stage, one few bands can hope to rival (only Danko Jones comes to mind). Not only will you find a sizzling live show, but included in this DVD package are a slew of videos from the most recent album, Tyrannosaurus Hives, as well as a handful of British TV appearances. Though most of these features are par for the course for a concert DVD, the essence of The Hives is caught perfectly on DW Johnson’s documentary film (a doc that makes Pink Floyd’s The Wall seem normal by comparison). This is a must-have DVD for fans of The Hives, as it showcases the exact appeal of this Swedish quintet.
