Success is in The Details

To go big, or go home was the question that faced Winnipeg indie-rockers The Details a couple of years ago. While playing South by Southwest in 2009 they impressed Kim Fowley, (remember the villain manager from The Runaways movie?) so much so that he wanted a piece of the pie. Luckily, they went with their collective gut. "We were all very flattered that he was interested in working with us, but for the album we wanted to make, he just wouldn't have been the right fit," says the band's drum Shaun Gibson. They decided their sophomore album would be safe in the hands of hometown man---and Weakerthan--- Stephen Carroll, who recruited Brandon Reid (The National's engineer)/ And of course a band called The Details would pay very close attention to the, uh, details. After three years of polishing, Lost Art is just the album they wanted, with notable guest appearances from Jenn Grant, Kinley Dowling and Imaginary Cities' Rusty Matyas. "I think the three years were necessary," says Gibson. "We were able to give each song the treatment it deserved."
