Storytime with Mark Bragg

Dark characters make you want to dance on Bragg's third record, Your Kiss

Storytime with Mark Bragg
Musical mustachio, Mark Bragg.

For Newfoundland's zany Mark Bragg, songwriting isn't about letting listeners into the depths of his soul, or getting pent up emotions off his chest. He's a storyteller just as much as he is a songwriter, and the darkness he likes to explore is that of imagined characters. "Hammering on a piano or guitar, images and characters come to me," says Bragg who's touring his newest narrative songbook, Your Kiss. "I'm seeing these people and usually they're in a dark place, and I'm interested how they got there." His first release in five years, Bragg happily brings his energy-packed band back to Halifax, where you can get get to meet his fiery fictional muses too."The joy in making music for me is performing it," says Bragg. "I don't really enjoy recording albums and not even writing songs. I think of it as a grind, but the performing is the reward."
