Stop Kiss goes slow

The Open Concept production of Stop Kiss proves that the progress of love can be agonizingly slow.

While the process of falling in love is infinitely exciting and engrossing to the people involved, the Open Concept production of Stop Kiss proves that is much less so to outside observers. The play is actually two intercut storylines: one about a pair of seemingly straight women, Callie (Annie Valentina) and Sara (Kristin Langille), and their glacial progress towards kissing each other; the other, the aftermath of the vicious beating the kiss engenders. The acting is first-rate, but the multiple costume changes between scenes and time jumps easily add half an hour to the play, and the sheer shoe leather expended in mundane tasks is stupefying. The pace picks up in some of the shorter scenes with minor characters, but ultimately this production is bogged down by its desire to show too much.
