It's been five years since Selina Martin's visited the Maritimes and a lot's happened since then. This time she's heading eastward for the Halifax Urban Folk Festival and she's bringing her new band, Selina Martin Triage, and a new record. Released last year Disaster Fantasies is an interesting blend of dark subject matter and danceable beats and this "subconscious contrast" resulted in what Martin calls her most high energy album yet. "I generally take a long time writing songs. I work on things and leave them and come back to them and continue to hone them until I'm happy with whatever I've come up with. Some of these songs took years to write, with lots and lots of stuff in the garbage heap," she says of her pop-infused third release. HUFF gives you three shots at seeing the Triage perform in Halifax, the first being Wednesday night.
