Sarah & Craig
Candace Berry

Who says high school sweethearts never make it? Not Sarah O'Brien and Craig Steeves. Through university, summers apart, masters degrees and internships, they've remained as tight as they were in their Fredericton High days. When working in geology in Tanzania, Sarah bought herself the bright blue Tanzanite stone that Craig would eventually pop the question with. "I told him if he proposed in public, I'd say no," says Sarah, reflecting on his park proposal. (Luckily there was no one around, so she said yes.) Their big day was as chilled out as they come, thanks to shared planning efforts and a small, intimate party with their closest loved ones. "I'm one of those people that needs a project," says Sarah, who collected brooches for her handmade bouquet, crafted origami paper flowers for her bridesmaids, got her mother's veil made into a fascinator and had her grandmother's fur coat tailored to fit her. The pair made their "first look" private, meeting up to share a moment before the ceremony, and the rest of the day rolled out seamlessly with old friends, good food and big laughs (thanks to some suit-shedding for a Chris Farley-Patrick Swayze SNL dance-off re-enactment). "I knew that it would all go off without a hitch," says Sarah. "People try to plan too much. Things will work out if you go with the flow."
