They're still putting the library together, but Halifax's International Tabletop Day organizer John Gallant estimates there will be about 100 different games available. "Some games will be set-up already with volunteers ready to teach people something new and there will also be shelved games that people can grab and try out on their own." Running all day, gamers eight years and older are invited to donate $5 to Feed NS and get on board with social gaming. It's "way better than going to the movies and you get the social interaction of a shared experience with people you care about," says Gallant. But rest assured, if you're new to the scene, there's something for everyone—this isn't the Monopoly of your youth—a whole new generation of popular games like Settlers of Catan and Ticket to Ride are taking over. "These games offer strategic choices, a bit of luck, and you're in the game until the end," he says. Your lamer friends don't seem interested? Come solo, they'll get you started when you walk through the door. Plus, the local gaming community has stepped up, offering plenty of prizes and a 50/50 draw. Drop by anytime throughout the day, grab a game and rep whatever you're playing with #tabletopday. Game on!
