Perpetual Detour wasn't a band in the beginning---it was just four friends from softball, hanging out and jamming in the basement. No expectations, no pressure, just a little musical experimentation and recreational song writing. "The first couple of songs that AJ [Leblanc] and I wrote, it was really striking how it all fell together," says the band's lead singer Meagan Lanchbery. "I'd be driving home from work, singing the songs for days. It was then that I realized the potential that was there." Eventually, they emerged from the basement with a whole whack of music and a name for themselves, Perpetual Detour."It's a common theme in a lot of our songs, never getting where you intended to," says Lanchbery, of the choice. This summer after two years of chipping away little-by-little, the Halifax-based melodic rock quartet released its debut album and thus far, college radio has been eating it up. "It wasn't relief so much as disbelief that it was actually done," says Lanchberry of What If It Was You. Sure, Perpetual Detour took the scenic route, but they're certainly on the right track now.
