Nine local, national and international photographers answered the call for behind the scenes photography on film sets, composing ViewPoint Gallery's current print and digital slide exhibition that coincides with the Atlantic Film Festival. Curated by Hannah Minzloff, the exhibiting artists include Holly Crooks, Jenny Blackmore, Andrew de Freitas, Etienne Desrosiers, Elias Djemil, Aaron Henderson, Christopher Johnstone, Ashley McKenzie and Becky Parsons. Crooks, a local photographer, has five images in the print exhibition and 10 in ViewPoint's digital display. "They were shot during October 2009, in and around Halifax on the feature film Snow," she writes. Crooks adds that her background as a dance photographer and costume designer makes her sensitive to the "nuances of body language, gesture and to split-second choices of transient activities," and informed the work she created from director Rohan Fernando's film. For a discussion on film stills moderated by Ron Foley MacDonald, head to the Sonic Temple on Saturday at 12:30pm. And if you can't make it to ViewPoint, there's a satellite exhibit at Delta Halifax.
