I'm considering out-of-town venues, how far is too far to expect guests to travel? Should I be responsible for finding
accomodations?
It's best to look within your guest list to find out how many guests will be required to travel. In most cases it's best to have a room block available at the wedding venue or at a nearby location to facilitate taxi and shuttle services. I would most certainly recommend having accommodations available for your guests and allow them to finalize and book their own rooms based on their schedules, priorities and budget!
I asked a friend to stand in my wedding but she's not helping. How do I deal with an underwhelming maid of honour?
When asking a maid of honour to join your bridal party it is also an ideal time to review and discuss some of the opportunities and responsibilities that you would like for her to partake in leading up to your wedding day. If you have already asked a maid of honour for their support, but still lack the help, it's best to review your expectations with her. If she's unable to devote the time, this is a great time to out-source assistance from a wedding planner.
I totally spaced on invitations and it's getting really close to the date. How late is too late?
I highly encourage sending formal invitations through the mail and cutting down on RSVP response time by having guests RSVP directly to a personalized wedding email account or website. Invitations are a sneak peek into your wedding day. To ensure your guests can book time off work for travel, it's suggested that you send invitations eight to 12 weeks prior to the day. If your guests are travelling a lengthy distance and require flights or accommodations, you may want to give them more time, even up to six months. And for destination weddings, all booking information should be available to guests eight to 16 months in advance to ensure a smooth process!
I'm working with a really tight budget, where are some areas that I can save without looking cheap and what's best to splurge on? Also, is there room to negotiate on certain professional services?
When working within a wedding budget, your priorities must be taken into account in the primary stages of planning. This will forecast your spending, clarify vendor-related estimates and help to ensure you don't over-invite guests or book vendors outside of your budget. This will also give you the opportunity to save on items not be as high on your priority list. In addition to aligning your priorities, look online for plenty of DIY options and set your ceremony time for later in the evening to cut down on menu and reception requirements! Discounts you say? When it comes to pricing, some professionals offer a la carte or customized package pricing.
