Director of operations, Centre for Art Tapes
The Centre for Art Tapes is a sort of a meta-arts organization that supports people working in electronic media, providing programming, exhibitions, facility and equipment access, as well as training. Since she’s plugged into the larger scene, we asked Wiggans what she saw as the biggest need. “It’s simply exhibit space,” she answers. “In Halifax, space is the biggest challenge for most organizations, both visual and performance organizations.” She discusses in particular the Khyber Arts Society and Eyelevel Gallery; Eyelevel will announce a move this week because of the high cost of space. “Yes, we want to pay artists more and landlords less,” says Eyelevel’s Michael McCormack.
How to give: “This is good timing,” says McCormack. “We’re having the Holiday Toast this weekend, which will benefit Eyelevel, Khyber and Centre for Art Tapes.” The Toast is an art auction and all-round party, Saturday, December 11, 8pm at the Khyber.
