A decade after the second installment of Men in Black and fifteen years after the original, it’s fair to say MIB III is a money grab—a chance to cash in on characters we already know long after we’ve stopped thinking about them. But for mindless entertainment, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) are up to their usual alien-fighting, until J goes on a time-traveling mission back to 1969 to save a youthful K (Josh Brolin) and kill a blood-thirsty alien, Boris The Animal (Jemaine Clement). Barry Sonnenfeld’s third addition to the Men in Black franchise has the basics of a watchable summer movie: special effects and a plot cogent enough to hold your attention for two hours.
