I'm a Clinical Assistant at AvantSleep

I worked as an administrative assistant for six years at a law firm, but I needed to find a new career. It was difficult to find a job that was not entry level, as I only had on-the-job training. I knew I had the experience, just not the credentials.

When an opportunity presented itself that I could go back to school, I immediately jumped on it. I found the Medical Office Assistant Diploma, which I knew I already enjoyed. I looked at different educational institutions and chose the Academy of Learning College. One of the big draws is that they have a one-year program, compared to two-year programs at other locations. Plus you can learn at your own pace, allowing you to be focused—and not overwhelmed—by your workload.

I did my work term at AvantSleep, and was offered the Medical Office Assistant position upon completion. During that period, I took interest in the company and showed a lot of initiative, and was subsequently offered the Clinical Assistant position. From being in this position, I have realized just how much I am personally affected by sleep...and I've developed a passion for this line of work.

I also see how we change people's lives on a daily basis. That's a truly gratifying feeling!

The Academy of Learning College has campuses all across Canada, and each one is locally owned. That personal setup translates into their teaching, as they are so resourceful and encouraging! They're referenced as Canada's Career College, and I have to agree—they were amazing in helping me get back into a career I love!
