Letters to the Editor

Dear hALifax,

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to you for trying to be sarcastic and only succeeding in pointing out how stupid smokers are (must be the formaldehyde). If you weren't "far too stupid to make my own decisions" you wouldn't smoke. Clearly, being too stupid to make a healthy choice, it is up to the government to protect you (and nonsmokers citywide) from yourself. "Before this wonderful legislation was conceived," you could be consciously unhealthy far more often and burn through taxpayers' contributions by burdening the health care system (today or in the future). Smokers have cried fowl for too long, but when were nonsmokers (the majority, I might add) ever given a choice? I'm not willing to be a hermit so you can willingly increase your chance (or mine if I want to venture into a public venue) at cancer, heart disease, stroke, impotence, halitosis or any other number of maladies. So on behalf of the government - provincial and federal alike - allow me to take this opportunity to say "YOU'RE WELCOME stupid!"
