Learning from the old country

Please, Halifax, learn from our mistakes in Scotland---do not repeat them.

To the editor,

We heard of the proposed building developments near Citadel Hill with dismay. Having visited twice already from "Old Scotia" we feel it would destroy a wonderful view of the harbour. It would also be out of keeping with the surrounding architecture. It is possible to restore the original buildings to good modern housing without destroying them. Glasgow is an example. Some years ago the city fathers pulled down old buildings and built high-rise ones. These are having to be demolished. Meantime, the old buildings have been restored, keeping the original facade. Please, Halifax, learn from our mistakes---do not repeat them.
