A Ghost History (Sonic Unyon)

If your head bangs more than your toe taps---that’s a high noise to melody factor. If the ratio’s just under infinity, does that make it math rock? This Halifax trio is well set to spread its reach, the second album landing on a national label. Tim Wheeler of Ash adds his endorsement in the form of a searing guitar solo on “Dumb Angel.” Chad Peck and company take it from there, through the rambunctious time-jumping finale “The Past Rests.” The band’s mission statement cites the Merge and Creation labels, so it may follow that Superchunk’s spunky torque and My Bloody Valentine’s fondness for feedback have been optimally fused.
