Joke’s on you

While the foolish tradition only lasts those few hours in the morning on April first, foolish drinks pop up in bars no matter what the date. We called a few bartenders and randomly asked what the most foolish drink they’ve been asked for.

While the foolish tradition only lasts those few hours in the morning on April first, foolish drinks pop up in bars no matter what the date. We called a few bartenders and asked what the most foolish drink (read: most ridiculous) they've been asked to make has been---and they didn't hold back.

Victor's

The bartenders at Victor's were breathless with suggestions for foolish mixes. On top of their list: a Mexican hand grenade, which has a pint glass holding two ounces of Red Bull, with two shot glasses sitting inside---one a shot of tequila, the other a shot of Jager. You "pull the pin"---drink the tequila shot, which makes the Jager drop into the Red Bull, and chase the tequila with what's left in your pint glass. Whewf.

Oakmount Station Pub

"We're a pretty tame bar," says bartender Tanya, but after some thought she says the slippery nipple is "pretty gross." Mix Baileys and sambuca with grenadine, and a congealed substance forms and drops to the bottom of the glass---in nipple form. We're taking Tanya's word that it "tastes gross on your tongue."

Gatsby's Pub & Eatery

"The grossest, weirdest one I've ever served is called the brain hemorrhage [above]," says bartender Kori Pippy. Mix peach schnapps, Baileys and grenadine, and the Bailey's will again form a gelatinous ball, but floats near the surface. "It's very disgusting looking, and it doesn't taste very good either." Didn't think so.

Freeman's Little New York (Quinpool)

Hold onto your lunch---bartender John Bachmann has the nastiest yet. "A bad one that tastes awful is granny panties," he says with a laugh. Tequila, Crown Royal, Baileys, all topped off with parmesan cheese. Bachmann says he's never voluntarily offered this one up---it's only been requested.
