If you're looking to turn your passion for creativity, design and decoration into a fulfilling career, you should look into one of Success College's premier programs—Interior Decorating. The program gives training in residential and commercial interior decorating and space planning. Graduates will be able to create and implement decorating plans for home, offices, shops and other professional spaces.
Success College's Dave Maguire notes that Interior Decorating is one of the school's core strengths. "We provide a strong foundation in creating functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces, as well as project management and business practices," he says. "Students will be trained in construction plan drafting, space planning, visual communications and the elements of design."
That training comes from instructor Sharon Cameron-Charlton. Boasting 23 years of work experience, she has been teaching at Success College for seven years and is currently the Executive President of the Nova Scotia Interior Decorator's Association. "The course focuses on the technical side of designing both commercial and residential interiors," says Cameron-Charlton. "The students learn a considerable amount of computerized drafting and design rendering."
Cameron-Charlton's role on the NSIDA also plays a factor in students' preparation for the workforce. "Our members in the NSIDA abide by our Code of Ethics and our professional standards, and it's very important that students graduating our program meet and exceed those standards as well," she says. "Throughout the year students build a design portfolio, which becomes very extensive by the time they graduate, and leave here well-versed in all aspects of designing interiors of residential and commercially built environments."
