Six weeks ago, Pigeon Row's Select Series released How Did We Even Get Here?, a free digital compilation of local music of genres with "post" in front of them, including Kuato, VKNGS, Union of the Snake and two of the bands on this show, Force Field and Instruments. The rarely seen latter band's contribution is "Send Resend," which opens with an ominous take on Hal Blaine's "Be My Baby" beat, thoughts of which are quickly disposed of by a tandem bassline, stomp-infused guitars and ghostly, deep-set vocals, which eventually wind down to garbled talking, like an old answering machine message, making the track at once nostaglic and futuristic. This band---still active, a record is imminent---doesn't play very often, so you'd best get in there.
w/Force Fields, Rockville Warriors and Movements, Saturday July 28, Michael's Bar & Grill, 6100 Young Street, 10pm, $7
