In the Dark

Dark for Dark's simple harmonies are a dream come true.

Dark for Dark (Melanie Stone, Rebecca Zolkower, Jess Lewis) plans to release its album in the spring.

Rebecca Zolkower was reading The Hobbit a few years ago when the name for the band jumped out at her, "the dwarves are sitting around the table and Gandalf says 'put on a light' and one of the dwarves says 'No. Let's keep it dark. Dark for dark business.' And it's funny because that's not really like the music we make." The music that Zolkower, Melanie Stone and Jess Lewis create is almost the opposite of that. Harmony-driven folk that layers melodic humming over soft acoustic guitar and the sweetly sad lyrics that Zolkower says are inspired by heartbreak and transition. "I'm really trying to focus on the organic nature of harmony and keeping it really simple." Stone and Lewis "have a really incredible natural sense of harmony and melody so working with them is a dream come true." The band is working hard on its new album, hopefully out this spring, but in the meantime, you can catch 'em at an intimate house concert on Saturday
