HPX goes Rockabilly

Ginger St. James headlines and Lets Riot! has a brand new comp to get your mitts on.

One of the best things about this week is the reminder that pop can take on many different forms. Teaming up with the reliably energetic Rockabilly Riot team, HPX is celebrating blues, alt-country, rock and roll and a little sass in the form of burlesque beauty Helena Darling this Friday. "I think it's a great opportunity, for both the artists and the festival to expose this type of music to the mainstream," says the night's headliner, Hamilton's fiery burlesque performer-turned-honky-tonk singer and songwriter Ginger St. James. "In my experience, rockabilly artists are confined to exclusive nights to showcase their music. Hopefully, this will provide an opportunity for the artists to be heard by a wider audience." The night will also be a celebration of brand new local label Let's Riot! Music's first release, a compilation record that samples from the best in the biz.

Fri Oct 19, Michael's Bar & Grill, 6100 Young Avenue, 10pm, $15
