Faces & Tulip
oil on canvas ($1,600)
by Michael Lewis

Lewis is well-known for his moody, evocative paintings---they appear in downtown restaurants such as The Wooden Monkey, Economy Shoe Shop, Tom’s Little Havana and The Press Gang. He also did the plywood floor design in the Lady Luck Boutique/Hydrostone Gallery neighbour, Rusty Hinges. In his recent work he’s investigating the figure, referencing the old masters in his loose, contemporary style.

Kolodin, who is Russian-born, lived in Israel and now is a Halifax resident, rocks the satirical in his work, with added elements of surrealism, folklore and mysticism, too. His recent collection of portrait-narratives reference significant figures, including Jeanne d’Arc and Kafka.
