You may have seen the dark, gothic-style posters plastered throughout the city announcing that Swedish metal-rock giants, Opeth, are coming to town. These doomy, romantic-style posters perfectly reflect the feel of this band's music. Inspired by pioneers of hard-rock like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, Opeth weaves together hints of darkness and mysticism with spiritualism and optimism. Opeth has been cranking out these powerful tracks rich with passion for over 20 years. Now, the band celebrates the launch of its 10th album, aptly named Heritage, by expanding its horizons and infusing its intense tracks with a more emotional, methodical vibe---all while still holding down its roots of dark, Scandinavian death-metal, of course. Special guests and fellow Swedes, Katatonia will be touring with Opeth in support of their ninth album, Dead End Kings. Like Opeth, this band has been rocking melodic doom-metal for over 20 years. Though they've been performing for more than two decades, this is the first time these Swedish rock stars have made their way to the Maritimes---so it should be quite the party.

Tuesday, April 23, Halifax Forum, 2901 Windsor Street, 7pm, $40/$45
