Dear Lezlie Lowe,
I just wanted to comment on your column on the upcoming smoking ban ("Last gasps," November 16).
I enjoy Tom's Little Havana, as you do. I love the staff, the atmosphere and the great music (they play the best music in town, I think). I guess you could say I smoke—when my roommate and I head to Tom's we enjoy a pint and a cigar.
The only time I smoke is at this bar. I don't have any cravings to smoke, but I go to Tom's for that reason. Being a smoke bar, I accept that people will smoke there and it is still my decision whether I go to the bar or not. Maybe I look at it as me being "bad," but I do enjoy a cigar.
I will still go to Tom's after the smoking ban comes into effect, but there will be a little something that is missing when I go to the bar.
I wonder where smokers will go now to have a drink and smoke. Will such places be extinct or will someone open up some form of speak-easy for smokers? I haven't been following what smokers do in other smoke-free cities. Oh well, I'm sure someone will devise a way to get around these rules.
