I was happy to hear that the "Twisted Sisters" project is in the clear. People in Halifax often obsess about height and forget about quality. The Heritage Trust claims that they are pro "good development," and cite their support for the MEC and the Four Points Sheraton as proof.
Unbelievable. I love the MEC, but its building (and the Four Points) offer almost nothing to the street and are about as cheap and ugly as buildings come. The only thing "good" about them (apparently) is that they are low.
So your building can be as cheap and ugly as you want and as long as it's low-rise, no one will bat an eye. That's sad. Take a look at the work of Hariri Pontarini Architects, because it's quality stuff. If the "Twisted Sisters" gets built, it will not be another blank concrete wall, like the Aliant building or the Four Points Sheraton.
