Watch out Halifax. Punk rock lovers will descend on Michael's Saturday night for Get Wrecked's last performance---ever.

"I don't think it was ever really like a 'Let's do this, let's break up,' or 'I can't do this anymore,'" says drummer Tasha Gobeil. "We just stopped jamming and we started jamming with other bands."

The band came together in 2005---Gobeil, Don Hynes on guitar and Clancy McDonald on bass. All three sing. The band draws a lot of its influences from UK punk of the early 1980s, but several years ago the trio began experimenting with other projects and musical genres and new bands were formed. "We were playing more challenging music. Stuff that wasn't simple three-chord punk," Gobeil says. "We were learning more with the other bands."

"We upgraded to four chords," Hynes adds with a laugh.

Whiskey Bent and Hellbound. Slumlord. The Bad Lads. Napalm Raid. Spew: The trio has splintered off into many of the punk groups that still play on a regular basis. The new bands feature elements of country, rock and Celtic, but are still heavily influenced by Gobeil, Hynes and McDonald's punk roots. "It's kind of how we live anyway," McDonald says. "We might as well play the stuff."

Right now the soon-to-be ex-band-members are heavily involved with their other projects. McDonald is preparing to debark on a tour that will take him around Canada and the United States (he even has a few gigs booked in Mexico). For now though, Get Wrecked will be breaking out its old songbook to get ready for Saturday. The gang promises a good time, a good laugh and a chance to get a few bruises in the mosh pit.

"This will be the last you hear of us," Hynes says. "It's going to be going out with a bang."

Get Wrecked w/Talk-Sick, Whiskey Shits, Ricochet, Saturday, April 14 at Michael’s Bar and Grill, 6100 Young Street, 10:30pm, $6
