Printmaking is a bit of a blanket term, and tucked under it is a really rich history of an expansive and still-growing art form. Studio 21's latest group exhibit The Allure of the Print uncovers bits and pieces of printmaking's evolution by showcasing the many styles and methods, from lithographs and woodblock to intaglio, and by including works like a notable (and large) colour etching from the late Tom Hopkins in contrast to three pieces from artists working with digital printmaking. "I think we are fascinated by prints, and we also wanted to demystify printmaking for the public," says the gallery's owner, Deborah Carver. To further the demystifying NSCAD professor, and guest exhibitor Mark Bovey will visit the gallery on March 4 at 2pm for a discussion about the various techniques of printmaking.
