Fubar II has feelings

The hoser mock-doc duo returns, with a gentle touch.

Sequels either take their foundation story in new directions or serve up more of what worked the first time. This is the second kind. Michael Dowse's encore to his 2002 mock-doc about hoser metalheads Terry (Dave Lawrence) and Dean (Paul J. Spence) follows the duo to the cash-spewing oil sands of Fort McMurray. Any lessons the Deaner learned from his battle with testicle cancer in the first instalment have been erased by years of continued alcohol and drug abuse, and the pair is still ready to give'r. Like its predecessor, Fubar II veers into serious territory, due this time to Terry's new girlfriend and Dean's latest health scare. It all works, because Dowse's mockery comes with a gentle touch. He cares about these less- than-average joes, and so do we.
